Anastomotic dehiscence and leakage remains a major problem in gastrointestinal surgery; and nowadays, attention has been focused on cellular acceleration of the wound healing process by the use of platelet-rich plasma (prp). This study determined the effects of prp application on intestinal healing. autologous prp was obtained in 35 pigs, which were submitted to two intestinal anastomosis. Activated prp was applied in one of the anastomosis, while the other served as control. After 24h, 48h, 72h, 96h and 7 days, histology was performed, and after 72h and 7 days breaking strength was also measured. in 24-48h of prp and control anastomosis, increasing inflammation was observed, and finally substituted by immature granulation tissue at 72-96h, that was more abundant in prp samples. although breaking strength in prp samples was higher than control samples, differences were not significant. in this study we also determinate a amounth of tgf- beta1 on platelet – rich plasma in pigs. For this determination we used 12 pigs, and the determination was made on platelet poor plasma(ppp), platelet- rich plasma(prp) and on platelet-rich plasma gel.
