Tesis doctoral de Paula Andrade Vivero
Dna stores genetic information in all living organisms. It is also the basic material on which evolutionary mechanisms operate to generate the enormous diversity of living beings. Dna is exposed to several endogenous and exogenous agents that can damage it and, according to the type of damage, several enzymatic routes of dna repair have evolved. These dna repair routes often include a dna polymerase. Dna polymerases of the x family are involved in the synthesis of small fragments of dna, being specialized in functions such as dna repair (pol¿ and pol¿) or the generation of variability (tdt). The four human x family polymerases combine a broad range of activities in order to cover some dna repair functions of the cell.
