Numerical models of in situ diffusion experiments in clay formations

Tesis doctoral de Qingchun Yang

This dissertation presents numerical models for in situ and lab diffusion experiments involved in the migration of radionuclides in the near and far fields of a deep geological repository for high level radioactive waste in clay. Numerical models have been performed for: 1) the design and interpretation of a long-term, natural-scale in situ diffusion (dr) experiment performed in a packed section into a borehole drilled vertically in the opalinus clay at mont terri in underground research laboratory in switzerland; 2) scoping calculations and interpretation of a mock-up lab experiment in bentonite-granite interface; 3) the interpretation of large-scale solid source diffusion experiments in callovo-oxfordian clay at bure site (france); and 4) the estimation of transport and retention parameters for dir (diffusion of inert and reactive tracers) in situ diffusion experiments performed on callovo-oxfordian clay at bure. A method to identify which parameters can be estimated and a method to study parameter identifiability of sorption and diffusion parameters are proposed.
