Summary introduction the importance of the study concerning the pain in youngsters lies within the fact that its manifestation at an early age is a predictor of late age chronic pain. pain is the most commonly perceived symptom in adults. In 1998 t he world health organization (who) estimated that the incidence of pain affects 22 of the population. amongst the pains that undergraduates show are the ones originated by stress as a consequence of the exams, the lack of sleep in order to prepare t he subjects, the osteoarticulars due to the reduction of physical exercise and malpractice of postural conduct, as well as the alteration of foods during the duration of the degree. Therefore, 20 of undergraduates suffer migraines and intense headac hes that arise even several times a week, being the principal cause of school absenteeism, and sometimes dragging them to fail the entire academic year. medicament consumption in spain is slightly above average of the european union, the average pric e of the medicaments is the lowest, with the exception of france and the average sales per pharmacy are the lowest in europe after greece. the rise in the usage of aine over the past years is mainly due to the increase in the utilization of ibuprofen , which represented 46 of the consumption of aines in spain in 2006, as it turned out to be the most consumed medicament that year. self-medication has been classically defined as ¿the consumption of medicaments, herbs and household remedies by its own initiative or by advice of a non qualified person, without consulting the doctor seeking the relief of symptoms or the cure of an illness¿. In other words, ¿the utilization of medicaments not having been previously prescribed by a doctor¿, re-usi ng old medicaments, having been prescribed or not by a doctor, left available at home, receiving the only advice of a non physician family member. self-medication amongst undergraduates has been studied by various countries, showing variations for ev ery state that ranged between 40 up to even 95 . hypothesis the pattern of consumption of analgesic medicaments and self medication that spanish university students follow is similar to the one displayed by italian undergraduates. objectives main objective the main objective of the study is to characterize and quantify the factors that determine the consumption of analgesic medicaments and self-medication of undergraduates, as well as to know the possible differences between countries with s
