The motivation of this thesis is to understand how it can be managed the integration of knowledge in strategic outsourcing projects product design. active participation of the company during the tasks of design (definition of design parameters and design rules definition) allows you to grow in knowledge, however should minimize leakage problems of knowledge and dependence on suppliers. the proposed model to characterize the design tasks based on knowledge complexity and interdependencies of inter-organizational tasks, we analyse the suitability and feasibility of use of knowledge integration mechanisms and control mechanisms on outsourcing design product. finding that, with respect to the definition of dynamic design rules, the analysis suggests that the task would be characterized by a dynamic complexity. the joint implementation between the company and the subcontractor would be characterized by intensive collective action and mutual transaction. For this, the mechanism of integration of knowledge used tend to be the group problem solving and decision making, and control mechanisms tend to be oriented to the skills, values, beliefs and boundaries. Instead, to define the design parameters, the analysis suggests the task would be characterized by a static complexity. the joint implementation between the company and the subcontractor would be characterized by pooled collective action and a transaction sequence. For this, knowledge integration mechanisms utilized tend to be the sequencing of activities, static design rules and procedures and communication. the control mechanisms tend to be oriented to the behaviour, the outcome and limits. To carry out the integration of knowledge between designers and product architect, the knowledge integration mechanism used between these teams tend to be group problem solving and decision making. And controls tend to be by means of interactive control systems. the evidence gathered through a case study of two university-industry collaborations, has confirmed the proposed model.
