Tesis doctoral de Paula Andrea Rodríguez Ossandón

The main objective of the research was to evaluate the impact of training on the results of the companies. This specific objectives were defined as the analysis of the characteristics of the training firms in álava, as well as checking the effect of training on business results, to investigate the effect of investment in training and business performance, and analyze the effect of the training characteristics on the results. based on these approaches a cross section analysis was performed, making a causal analysis of the variables that explain the results of organizations. In adittion, we use an ordered probit methodology to explain the behavior of the level of sales. we analyzed the main features of the training of firms in álava, país vasco in order to verify the effect of training on business results. To this end we tested several hypotheses and sub-hypotheses. among the main findings, it is possible to highlight the positive and statistically significant relationship (at 1%) between training investment and business performance. To make robust analysis of the relationship between financial performance and investment in training, we control for firm characteristics, ratifying the outcome: the impact of training investment on financial performance is statistically significant. The results indicate that it is possible to say that this relationship is independent of firm size, education level of employees and the economic sector involved. The proposed model indicates that there are some variables also helping to explain the impact of investment on training results. In this sence, number of employees, economic sectors of the metals industry, construction, commercial sector, restaurants and hotels all are significant at convetional levels. In adittion, belonging to a group of companies, and the variable indicating whether they have as main center of activity álava are also statistically relevant. for the sample used in this study, the company revenue is explained by training investment and firm characteristics such as size and activity. On the other hand, the larger the number of employees and participation in some economic activities, the greater the probability of reaching higher levels of sales. another stated objective has to do with explaining the effect of the characteristics of training in the performance of the company, which are interesting but inconclusive results. This way, predicted trend of investment in training and distance training show up us statistically significant. finally, in terms of the marginal effects of investment in training, the results are very interesting. In general terms, this relationship is confirmed as positive. Companies that invest in training are more likely to increase their levels of turnover. Companies with reduced levels of sales, on the one hand exhibit no effects, while at the other hand, they present over-investment.
