The present dissertation is related to the social behaviours in the use of the artificial lighting system and the repercussions in the nocturnal ambience. The perspective of this dissertation has base on light pollution problematic and its derivations, since light pollution turns out to be a new topic and social, environmental, political, economic and scientific interest. the research analyzes factors of specific cultural paradigm of our society in the use habits of the public lighting system, also the research identifies social actions that incorporate the environmental values in the social behaviours regarding to lighting system. this investigation starts off the supposition in which social demand of the lighting system is determinate by cultural approaches and not just functional needs, after all these approaches can oppose the demands of the environmental values, therefore it is necessary that the sustainability policies, regarding to the lighting system, requires the consideration of cultural factors. the endorsement of the dissertation took through a comparative analysis in the scopes of: legislative, environmental, social, and ethnographic investigation like comparative element. from there, illumination valuations were developed, general concepts of light pollution, characteristics, effects, sustainability on lighting system and the barriers before the reduction application of the light pollution. the work culminates with a series of proposals, which are considered as contribution to the study, as well the possible lines for future investigations.
