Desarrollo y aplicacion de metodos avanzados para la caracterizacion de la respuesta sismica del suelo a escala regional y local

The global purpose of this work is the characterization of the seismic ground motion at local and regional scale using advanced theoretical and empirical methodologies. at regional level, it was observed that some ground motion in the mediterranean coast area were minor than the expected, in other words, high seismic attenuation were being observed. To study this phenomenon with more detail, accelerometric data with enough magnitude from this area have been compiled. These data have been provided by several institutions. These data have been compared with preestablished european predictive curves, being visible these higher seismic attenuation rates. This motivates the proposal of a set of more realistic ground motion predictives curves using the accelerometric data from the western mediterranean area. Ground motion predictive curves for the peak ground acceleration (pga) and the acceleration spectrum (sa) in terms of epicentral distance and magnitudes with a range of validity between 3.8 and 5.2 for the magnitude and 10 y 550 km for the distance have been proposed as main result of this part of the thesis. at local scale, the numerical methods for estimating local effects (ground motion modifications due to the local geology) are the purpose of the second part of this thesis. firstly, a parametric and comparative exercise for the validation of several 1d and 2d numerical methods in the volvi valley (greece), taking into account the modeling done by several research teams and real records in the area, have been carried out. the conclusions extracted from this exercise according to the dimension of the modeling (1d-2d), the valley structural model of the valley and the seismic attenuation are of great interest and are useful for future numerical modelings in other local areas. secondly, the finite differences method has been chosen for its application in a 2d profile of a pyrenean valley, the valley of cerdanya (girona, spain).
